Since 2004, the RTAA has been working to promote the activities of the concrete and terracotta tile industry in Australia. The RTAA was the result of an amalgamation of a number of state associations, which are now established as state divisions of the national association. The key roles of the RTAA are to: address occupational health and safety issues within the building industry which affect roof tilers, including working with government to improve workplace safety standards; foster and encourage the training of roof tilers; educate the general public about the advantages of roof tiles over other roofing products.

In 1936 a group of Roofing Tilers saw a need for such a movement and so formed the Master Slaters, Tilers & Shinglers Association, the name reflecting the influence of the various roofing materials at that time. Recently the name was changed to coincide closer with today’s material usage. Members of the Master Roof Tilers and Slaters Association are some of the industries most reputable in the industry today. Each member conforms to an industry code of ethics that ensures professionalism and project delivery.

The Office of the Australian Building and Construction Commissioner (ABCC) was established in 2005 and was provided with powers to enforce workplace laws, and to address the problems that the building and construction industry encounters nationally. Its key objective is to ensure that workplace relations laws are enforced in building and construction industry workplaces. The ABCC also promotes proper conduct through educating industry participants on their rights and obligations.
